Rent the bbc version insteadBy KitKat from North London , 17 Feb 2006
[Highly rated reviewer]More 'Around the World in 80 Days' than 'Shakespeare in Love'; 'Casanova' attempts to fuse Blackadder style anachronistic humour with romantic drama, but misses on both counts and descends into farce. It has moments of silly humour, but just isn't anywhere near funny enough. Ledger is adequate as the man himself, but Sienna Miller is hopelessly miscast as the love interest and their central romance is entirely unconvincing. By the end, the film loses its tenuous grip on reality completely. It is unlikely to appeal to anyone over the age of twelve. Do yourself a favour and rent the bbc version instead.

Good Rom Com.By Mapreader (11 reviews) , 22 Jul 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]Deserves better reviews. Don't expect serious historical romance, or the real story of Casanova. It's light, but fun and well done. Visually appealing throughout, a lot of trouble has been taken with sets. The anachronisms are deliberate and creative, not ignorant. Less effort has gone into the music. Yes the characters are 21st century dropped into I'm not sure when, but that's the joke. Better than most of Blackadder.
Fun overwhelmed by stupidityBy MrMxyzptlk (9 reviews) , 03 Mar 2012Fun and entertaining first half gives way to ridiculously stupid second half. Worth a watch, but don't expect much from this film.
Falls flat- David Tennant version much betterBy TheCountessOfRochester (11 reviews) , 27 Feb 2012Not worth watching! Heath Ledger is not right nor believable as Casanova and quite frankly, for a movie about the worlds greatest lover it is too tame! Casanova with David Tennant is a MILLION times better, more flamboyant and enjoyable. This version just falls flat. Ignore the good ratings and reviews- if they had seen the version with David Tennant, they would be writing the same review as I am here.
Fun-filled rompBy a customer , 16 Feb 2012Not Oscar worthy, but still a really funny, high spirited film to relax with. Heath Ledger and Sienna Miller play very convincing roles. Well worth a watch.
Really my cup of tea!By a customer , 11 Jan 2012I found it quite charming and so romantic - really my cup of tea. It has well known stars, a good story to it and it's hilarious.
Heath Ledger looks gorgeous, as always, and plays his character so well. I would fall for him any day of the week and twice on Sundays!!
