Rent the bbc version insteadBy KitKat from North London , 17 Feb 2006
[Highly rated reviewer]More 'Around the World in 80 Days' than 'Shakespeare in Love'; 'Casanova' attempts to fuse Blackadder style anachronistic humour with romantic drama, but misses on both counts and descends into farce. It has moments of silly humour, but just isn't anywhere near funny enough. Ledger is adequate as the man himself, but Sienna Miller is hopelessly miscast as the love interest and their central romance is entirely unconvincing. By the end, the film loses its tenuous grip on reality completely. It is unlikely to appeal to anyone over the age of twelve. Do yourself a favour and rent the bbc version instead.

It was OkayBy a customer , 29 Jun 2011Fun film to watch, and although I enjoyed it, it was nothing compared to the BBC version of the tail of Casanova starring David Tennant.
Worth a watch. :)
Sumptuous Romps & Frolics in VeniceBy a customer , 23 Jun 2011Fun, rollicking and stunningly beautiful and very much in the spirit of the traditional 18th century farce. If you want to watch a true depiction of the despicable, depraved self-promoting fantasist, this film isn't for you. But if you wish to spend a very merry hour or two watching a frolicsome, light hearted and comedic tale of love and intrigue, set amidst the ravishing splendours of Venice, look no further. It's as visually rich and extravagant as a box of handmade dark chocolates of the very finest quality. It drips with gilded gorgeousness, (the light, the costumes, the sets) as does Heath Ledger, who is more than sexy enough to convince. Lovely performances from everyone, all in all a very pleasurable way to relax that makes one feel one is being treated to a great and delightful indulgence.
comical costume dramaBy a customer from Farnborough , 22 Jun 2011Ok, this is nowhere near historically correct, but do we really care.
The film is a funny costume drama farce (if not a side splitting one) that has enough to keep you interested. Having said that, there were also sufficient boring bits interspersed throughout that dragged it down a bit.
This is an easy to watch romance film that will have you grinning a lot. Has to be worth a bash.
Corny filmBy a customer , 24 Apr 2011What a truly awful, corny film. There was nothing good about it all at: it wasn't funny, exciting, romantic, clever or anything. Heath Ledger's 'English' accent a bit suspect too.
