Rent the bbc version insteadBy KitKat from North London , 17 Feb 2006
[Highly rated reviewer]More 'Around the World in 80 Days' than 'Shakespeare in Love'; 'Casanova' attempts to fuse Blackadder style anachronistic humour with romantic drama, but misses on both counts and descends into farce. It has moments of silly humour, but just isn't anywhere near funny enough. Ledger is adequate as the man himself, but Sienna Miller is hopelessly miscast as the love interest and their central romance is entirely unconvincing. By the end, the film loses its tenuous grip on reality completely. It is unlikely to appeal to anyone over the age of twelve. Do yourself a favour and rent the bbc version instead.

A waste of talent.By Nitaray (222 reviews) from Farnham , 12 Oct 2010Given the logistical restrictions of making this kind of movie in a tiny city built on water, I suppose the end result is something of a minor miracle. Venice looks slightly artificial, which I now know is due to the addition of digital camerawork. Shame about that, but its that kind of movie part fairytale and part panto, with Omid the Iranian/East End belly dancer playing Casanovas manservant, and Jeremy Irons as the Grand Inquisitor in an orange wig, ripe and ready for a part as the pantomime Dame. As for the late and lovely Heath Ledger, he was more Errol Flynn than Casanova.
Otherwise, I really didnt get it. What was the point of re-hashing this story yet again? As a comedy, it wasnt funny, the plot was tosh and all the cast, including Casanova , had British accents.
I was bored to tears.
Good rom/comBy a customer from padstow , 12 Jul 2010Really enjoyed this film. Its a great easy to watch romance film with bit of comedy thrown in. Loved the chemistry between Ledger and Miller, and although the story gets bit slow in places, they both bring the story to life. Definatly worth a watch.
Good chemistryBy RainbowJoBirko (123 reviews) from Derbyshire, England , 02 Apr 2010An action packed adventure. I liked the costumes and thought Sienna Miller and Heath Ledger had a good chemistry.
With a nice fun ending, it was an enjoyable film.
casanovaBy martynchess (18 reviews) from TN37 6LE , 18 Feb 2010i loved heath ledger's portrayal of casanova trying 2 woo francesca who is a very feisty sexy woman.the comedy in this is very good.i loved the twist wen papprizio met francesca's mother & fell 4 her then the boy next door falling 4 casanova's fiance & eventually C getting his woman. I think it would b nice 2 hav a complete life story of casanova's story told with heath in the title role.i also believe he had an attempted affair with an english woman that was very like francesca's story that mite b an idea 2 make as a sequel
CasanovaBy a customer from London , 11 Feb 2010A good romp for a winter's afternoon. The views of Venice made one want to be there.
