The worst BondBy Lisa from N Wales , 13 Jun 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]Not a classic Bond..in fact in my opinion its the worst one i've ever seen (and i've seen em all). A lacklustre story, no drama, no plot, bitty, no memorable bad guy, no gadgets, no memorable bond girl. The action scenes were even less believable than previous bonds. I'm afraid the Bonds have taken a step backwards for me. However, Daniel Craig was good and well suited to action but not so good as a ladies man. (Roger Moore for that)

Watchable but not a Must Watch!By PaulHappy (154 reviews) , 02 Feb 2013Not the best of JB movies and I must admit that I am not really a JB fan or even a fan of predictable 'action hero' films in general. But I do think Daniel Craig is a good actor and also a good Bond. The action sequence at the beginning of the movie was really good. Personally, looks wise (and the girls are a key part of JB films) it would have been great to have seen more of Caterina Murino and less of Eva Green. I also find it amusing when JB leaves the card table and a action sequence occurs and he ends up bloodied only to see him return to the casino looking like nothing has occured. I realise this was the first of Ian Fleming's JB books but the lack of gadgetry here did spoil it a bit (after all the gadgets are another attraction of JB films). This is watchable but certainly not a 'must watch' and I would not watch it a second time.
A brave new BondBy TheWatchman (745 reviews) from Suburbia , 13 Jan 2013Okay, let me say that the reason Im reviewing this film several years after its release is because Ive decided to give it a second viewing (in the wake of Skyfalls success at the box office). Ive watched all the Bond films, right the way through from Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan and, although they vary slightly depending on the story, I have to say Ive loved them all. I love the silliness, the tongue-in-cheekiness, the witty quips and the gadgets. Then came Casino Royale. I had no objections to Daniel Craig being named as James Bond (after his part in Layer Cake, I think he proved he had what it took). I didnt even object to the fact that Bond was (sort of) being rebooted, showing how Bond became a 00 agent etc. What I objected to was that, in my opinion, it was NOT Bond. Yes, it had action, ladies and exotic locations, but gone was everything that I thought made Bond Bond. I watched the whole film and give it a disappointed two stars out of five, admitting that the action sequences were good, but it was more The Bourne Identity than Bond. However, as the years have gone by and my shock has dwindled, Ive re-watched it and come to accept that it does have its merits. Yes, Bond has changed. Maybe its for the best. Daniel Craigs (current) three outings have been the most financially successful of all the Bond films, so I guess hes appealing to the masses. This is indeed a new slant on Bond. Gone is what I loved, but its been replaced by something now Im viewing it in the cold light of day with some ALSO pretty good too. I appreciated that the plot to Casino Royale was actually a lot more intense than many of its predecessors, plus there was far more reliance on character development, rather than just invisible cars (yes, even I found that one a little hard to swallow in Die Another Day). Although I will forever enjoy the cheeky charm of old Bond, I will admit that this one has its place alongside it and now am beginning to look forward to the news of a new Bond film in the making. Now I give it a much more respectable four out of five stars. (I still like Roger Moore the best though!)
Craig brings a new dimension to the role of BondBy Daura (73 reviews) from Coventry , 30 Dec 2012What does daniel craig bring to the role of Bond you might ask? Craig brings a glimpse into an uninstitutionalised Bond early in his carrier who still falls in love and its his weakness. Craig moves well and is believeable in the role not only because of his acting and certain rugged charm but also because he does his own stunts in many scenes and is very physically fit. Great to have a new spin on an old formula that worls to this day
Old Fashioned BrillianceBy 5ft7offootballheaven (300 reviews) from London , 18 Nov 2012I love this movie. Think I saw it years ago but on a plane or some place where I didnt fully appreciate it. It deserves a Sunday afternoon with no distractions which is what it got today.
Locations, ladies, intelligent action and above all a good story line. Stunts and gimmicks are secondary to the plot. Good.
Inspired. To do what I dont know....x

A great Bond film .. for people who don't like Bond films!By a customer , 12 Nov 2012A good Bond film - for people who don't like Bond films! I haven't seen all 50 of them, so I was just watching it as a film in itself and didn't pay much attention to whether or not it stayed true to the Bond franchose.. for example I can't remember how many cool gadgets he used (probably oo busy goggling at those trunks) - but I could keep up with the plot and was very entertained for a few hours so for me, it's getting 4 stars! A bit of everything - serious intensity in places juxtaposed with his witty one liners and likeable characters - even the bad guys were good!
