Poor WoodyBy Stiofan (38 reviews) from Oxford , 14 Jun 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]Woody Allen's third London murder story in a row but without the style or suspense of 'Match Point' or the humour (or Allen himself) of 'Scoop'. In fact, no clue that this is a Woody Allen film at all apart from his name on the credits. The dialogue and acting are poor, the accents dodgy. Only the locations look good. A great disappointment.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideTerrible acting, terrible script, terrible continuity and hugely entertaining for that. Cringe as the focus of the story shifts for no reason, guffaw when McEwan's gf screams 'I'm ambitious' stare incredulously as Farrels addiction problem appears from nowhere and marvel at the dialogue of the uncle in the scene under the tree. Woody Allen is well known for his comedy and has unintentionally presided over one of the funniest film's I have ever watched,

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideI've watched more entertaining ITV dramas from the 80's than this. An average plot and disappointing end. Move along, nothing the seen here.
This is actually a very good film!By Woolbridge (16 reviews) , 17 Nov 2013This is actually a very good film. I am not sure why so many critics slated it. An excellent sound track by Philip Glass gives the London locations a dramatic ominous feel. With sterling performances from McGregor and Farrell together with a good story, which is told well. I think a lot of people who hated this film are Brit, London types who felt the characters were not believable. But as someone who has lived in London for half a century I could not see what they objected to.
unless you are a die hard allen fan, don't botherBy kat59 (96 reviews) , 31 Oct 2013I have never rated woody allen's alleged genius and this travesty of a movie has done nothing to change my mind. he has taken a competent british cast and turned them into two dimensional non-characters. the wordy woody style which is annoying at best does not translate well and makes all the dialogue seem contrived. this is the first time I have ever had to give up on a film before the end, my perseverance is legendary but this dross was more than I could stomach.
Not ANOTHER one.By Cushy (2 reviews) , 15 Oct 2013Only Allen keeps getting the money and the actors to turn his awful scripts into films. No one else on the planet would get ten pence to film this script. He's so LAZY LAZY LAZY. One film a year for a century or so now so people think he's a real worker. And I suppose if you throw enough LAZY S### at the fan some of it is gonna stick. But at least twenty of them were made whilst sleep walking. Isn't art all about pushing yourself to do the best you can possibly do? He's just getting the cameras out and filming whatever doesn't matter. He just likes making films, don't we all? Someone should withhold the money until the script it ready. No Mr Allen, it's not ready, stop being LAZY and go do some WORK on the script.
