  • Poor Woody

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Woody Allen's third London murder story in a row but without the style or suspense of 'Match Point' or the humour (or Allen himself) of 'Scoop'. In fact, no clue that this is a Woody Allen film at all apart from his name on the credits. The dialogue and acting are poor, the accents dodgy. Only the locations look good. A great disappointment.

  • You don't understand Woody Allen

It makes me laugh that most people writing reviews about Woody Allen only seem to be aware of his newest work and so do not understand him as a writer or a director. I advise that before you can comment on him as a writer, director or actor that you see his earliest works. So many truly fabulous movies that he can never be solely judged on his most recent works. Nothing compares to his movies from the 60's and 70's and yes maybe he's lost his edge or changed his style but he's still an absolute legend!

  • Better than led to believe

Woody is in dark Dostoevsky mood of Crimes and Misdamenours and Matchpoint and there was a fair bit of tension that kept me intirgued in this film. The acting and directing felt rushed but worth a look and not the worst of Allen's European outings (Scoop and Vicky Crisitina Barcelona can wrestle for that).

It is another WoodY Allen film set in London but this time we have Colin Farrell playing Dick VanDyke. Long gone are the days of a great Woody Allen film. In my own humble opinion his last great film was the Sweet and lowdown. Of the last bunch of films of his I am afraid I can only divide them as: Woody Allen attempts to do Woody Allen and Got close to the mark but lost its way around the middle. I am terribly upset to hope that maybe his next film will be back to true form... it just seems to never get there. I shall continue to enjoy the classic ones and probably avoid any of the new ones until I can stream them for free (like this one).

  • Ruth Rendell without the mystery

A good solid plot but ham acted, which was very surprising. I think it must have been poorly script written. I've never thought Woody Allen quite right in the head so I can only imagine he might find some sort of twisted humorous irony in the film.. In a world of his own. Reminded me of a made for T V Ruth Rendell mystery without the mystery.

  • Symphonic London...

He's done it. Woody Allen has captured the musical tone of London, with symphonic color and a Shakespearean rhythm in the dialogue, exactly true to how the characters would be, in real time and place.
