The film starts with a decent premise, a straight forward sci-fi plot about a dystopian future. Its shot deliberately in the style of an Anime, but this doesn't really work. The camera is too choppy, the CGI (whilst stylised) doesn't fit in, and throughout the two and a half hours of film, there are regular slow motion, over the top 'arty' scenes, which fail to do anything or have any real point. They add nothing to the aesthetic, emotion or plot of the film, and almost seem to be there for the sole purpose of making the movie 'arty'.

If you want pretentious tosh, you're in the right place, but if you want an intelligent art-house film, or a sci-fi, you need to look elsewhere.
