Entertaining, but getting repetitive...

The formula is established early on in the series and doesn't deviate much.
Episodes open with a focus on the murder scene (although in this case it is an abduction). There's a bit of repartee between Castle and Beckett, maybe a bit of homelife (daughter's endearing, Mum's batty). They interview the parents, noone seems terribly upset, they go back to the office, Beckett gets a phone call and replies 'On my way.' Then they're out on location. The first suspects are released. Then a small, predictable twist at the end, a bit more domestic repartee, flirting, title sequence... Every time.
If I was the writer, I'm not sure I'd be going home feeling I'd had a good day's work, so much as I just assembled something on a production line out of lego. It's not bad, but it's not exactly groundbreaking and it's quite easy to tune out. Castle's character is pretty good - an interesting mix of jester and responsible Dad. Beckett is exactly what you'd expect from an attractive, young NYPD cop. Yawn.- Was this review helpful to you?
