Patience Philips is a shy, reserved young woman who wants to be an artist but instead is a designer for an advertising company. She is mousy and lacking in self-esteem even when she gets her big break to work on the launch of a major beauty product for her mean-spirited, ruthless boss. But a series of events initiated by a .. Director Pitof's lame fantasy action adventure is a spin-off from the Batman franchise in name only. Selina Kyle, the part-kitty character memorably played by Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns, is here dropped in favour of a new creation. Halle Berry is unconvincing as scatty artist Patience Philips, who's revived by a mystical cat after being murdered to become the eponymous, ultra-confident feline superheroine — a sometime jewel thief and righter of wrongs. Using her new-found skills, Philips sets about uncovering a plot to flood the world with a toxic face cream, a scheme fronted by Sharon Stone, who's excellent as a model-gone-bad. What ought to be something for everyone turns into something for hardly anyone, as a romantic subplot involving sexy policeman Benjamin Bratt serves only to muddy the main story. Poor special effects (with weak echoes of better superhero outings such as Spider-Man) and an uneven central performance contribute to what may well be the flop summer blockbuster of 2004.

    Not trashy enough

This isn't anywhere near as bad as some critics have made out and it's actually quite enjoyable if you're in the right mood.

If it was more trashy it would be much more fun but unfortunately though Sharon Stone seems game it just doesn't happen. There are a few giggle-inducing moments but these are far too few.

Halle Berry is OK apart from when she's trying to be frumpy - she just looks like a beautiful woman who's dressed herself from the Humana box, in the dark.

The CGI work is not realy up to scratch as too often you're aware that what you're looking at is not real.

Catwoman - Not as bad as they say

First of all, this film is not about crime fighting or any super hero/heroine stuff, it is more like a pop video that’s gone on way too long.

That said, Halle Berry’s Catwoman is strong, determined and sexy and refuses to be pushed around but she can show her vulnerable side when she is wronged. Her alter ego, Patience Phillips, is a pathetically shy individual that would run a mile rather than risk confrontation.

Without giving away the story and any plot points, I would say that the film took too long before Catwoman appeared and would have benefited from facing a super villain rather than the evil company’s top people.

Saying all that, the film is fun and Halle has a good time making it, the fight scenes are good and athletic but edited like a pop video, i.e. so fast that you feel that scenes are left out.

Overall, certainly not a brilliant film but a film that can be watched on a Saturday night with a takeaway in one hand and an Australian beer in the other.

    This is bad

I wouldnt bother renting this one. Terrible story but to be fair Halle Berry does her best to make things a bit better. Use your place in the queue for something else.

    I give up.

There are some movies that come along like Troy and The Day After Tomorrow and this one that really stir the critics up into a frenzy of disdain - I've become wary of this in recent years because I've come to realise it's meaningless. Catwoman is a perfectly fine, fun bit of entertainment that engaged me and my kids for the duration. The Halle Berry character is so sweet it's impossible not to root for her, and in fact the whole film has this feeling about it. I found no evidence of overacting or hamminess, just actors matching the tone of the piece. In fact I'm marking the film up to balance out all those negative reviews that will no doubt continue to surround this one!

    Awesome Flick

Encased in a skintight leather cat suit that shows her rack and ass to perfection Halle Berry looks way cool, its worth renting just to see her alone!

This is a good movie with an excellent storyline – wee loved it and prey for the sequel.

If you enjoy hot babes with bulging clevages in outrageously tight fetishware this film is for you!

Not Cat Litter but Not Purrfect Either

Catwoman is a film best viewed with the mind fully closed down. Berry and Stone give adequate performances as Catwoman and the villian. The action sequences are well handled though the use of CGI tends to over take the proceedings. The effects look more like the first half of Spiderman than the polished Spiderman II.

The story line is adequate enough but doesn't really test the mind and to be honest, there is only so many cat references you can have in 90mins of entertainment. The documentary on the disc about Catwoman is great as it covers the comics and the Batman series (television, films and animated series). Very good. This knocks the disc up a couple of notches.

Final verdict - harmless entertainment. For a switched off mind only.

Catwoman - More like a weak kitten

I was very disappointed with this film. Halle Berry tries her best but it just doesn't work. The plot is very lame and the story ridiculous. I suppose that is to be expected as it is a cartoon character. However even the kids would be bored. Catwoman was better as Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman. Perhaps she should have stayed there and not gone alone. Don't watch unless you are a Halle Berry fan and even then it is a struggle

    Surprise

After reading so many reviews putting this film down, I was in two minds whether to rent it. I'm glad I did, as I enjoyed every minute of it. Halle is perfect as Catwoman and Sharon Stone an excellent bitchy opponent. Some great special effects make this one not to be missed.

    As expected

You know what to expect when you rent this, it 'won' the awards and poor reviews for a reason, it's bad throughout. Halle Berry is terrible and the plot is worse than terrible. For a better version of Catwoman see Batman Returns. If you are a comic book fan, like me, then you are going to watch this but expect to be let down.

    Only if your bored

It got bad cinema reviews so I gave it the benefit of the doubt but sadly the reviews were right.

But it has got Halle Berry in a leather suit...
