Phonetastic!
By John O'Boyle from Ayrshire, Scotland , 29 Jan 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Kim Basinger plays a mother who gets kidnapped by the ever British and always slightly below par actor that is Jason Statham, and his band of roguish ruffians. Somehow able to piece together a broken phone (some things we should just accept), she manages to make one random phone call, and lucky for her gets a hapless teenager (played by Chris Evans, no not the ginger British one, the American teen movie one) who she convinces into helping her.
I had far more fun with Cellular than I ever expected to. It throws you right into the thick of it and doesn?t really let up until the final act. There?s suspense, drama and most surprisingly humour to boot. As well as being impressively clever in the heat of the moment, the antics as our unlikely teen hero bring plenty of laughs, which for me made this shine above the rest of the kidnap/chase movies we have all saw before. Don?t get me wrong, it wasn?t a comedy, the tension and the drama were all still there, I?ve never been on the edge of my seat before over a mobile phone losing its charge, or the threat of having to drive through a tunnel.
It doesn?t take a glam premiere, 30 storey advertising or a10 Disc Special Edition DVD box set, with glossy 8? x 10? photos and porcelain bookends to make a good film. Cellular is an extremely fun ride, that shouldn?t be taken too seriously, and sometimes that?s all that matters. I urge everyone to see it, at least once.- Was this review helpful to you?

By ZenZii (146 reviews) from Preston , 30 Jan 2013Kim Basinger (always takes me back to nine and a half weeks) plays biology teacher kidnapped for something her husband did (but what?) she can't understand why she's been kidnapped, by Statham and his bunch of thugs, and thinks they have the wrong person. (I don't personally really like Statham and as per usual he plays the big hulking thug with no no no charisma and never changes his role as well - him.) She's put in an attic bewildered and unsure, as she screams in terror as Statham lump hammers the phone on the beam in the attic which she thinks he's aiming for her head. She cleverly messes with the wires and manages to reach someone. Enter Chris Evans (no not the British ginger one, the American pretty cute one). He's a fun loving surfer with the fittest of friends (namely Eric Christian Olsen) (the reason I watched this movie, and he played such a small small part and I was upset for a while until I realised I quite like the Chris guy) anyway... she links with him and things go from excitement, fun, thrill, edge of your seat, to more excitement, with quite a good storyline seen as though its just a kidnapping. All in all I quite enjoyed this movie and am thinking of adding it to my ever expanding collection!!! x x x- Was this review helpful to you?

Five Stars!
By Stinger (38 reviews) from Rochdale , 24 Nov 2010I've read the critics review and had to check that I was thinking of the same film!
Yes there is a comedic element to this film but I didn't find that it compromised the movie as it always stayed the right side of slapstick.
The hero and heroine steadily build a rapport with one another and the film really starts to grip you. The lighter moments like in the 'phone shop and the car-jacking provide a lighter element but never hi-jack the film.
Evans, Basinger and Macy are all excellent and I thought Statham also helped hold the film unlike the critic.
I've seen Cellular now four times and every time there's something you remember as the film unfolds.
I will watch it again and I'll enjoy it again!- Was this review helpful to you?

dissapointing
By myreviewis (13 reviews) from harpenden , 23 Feb 2010The film is so unrealistic, in so many occassions I was thinking why is he not ringing the cops? if he knows how to use a cellphone he can surely call the police or even stop to find a policeman. I thought it was a good lighthearted film to pass an hour but you can watch it while you are surfing the internet or ironing!!- Was this review helpful to you?
