A really good Brit FilmBy goofyfoot (9 reviews) from Ludlow , 29 Aug 2010
[Highly rated reviewer]I am a big Gervais/Merchant fan, so I started out biased. However, I had also read film critics reviews of the film, which were not that favourable.
This is a film for people who remember growing up in England in the 70's, and is still relevant for kids growing up today.
It is not depressing, it is a stark reminder of how things used to be for the working classes. It contains plenty of humour and hope.
Gervais has a very small acting role in the film, but when he does appear, he is very 'Gervais'.
Merchant has a cameo role. Again he is funny, you will have to giggle.
I don't want to give the plot away, don't expect loads of laughs, it is humorous, in a nice cosy British film kind of a way.
Give it a go.

Heartwarming, yet grittyBy a customer , 08 Jun 2012I don't like Gervais that much but as I lived on Cemetery Junction for a while, I thought I would give it a go. I thought it was a fantastic film! Heartwarming and gritty, with a touch of humour. I will recommend it to all my friends
Good film, amusing but not hilariousBy GrittedTeeth (11 reviews) , 26 May 2012Good film, kept me interested. Amusing moments but perhaps it thought it was funnier than it actually was? I love The Office and Extras but Ricky Gervais was playing the same type of character that we have seen before which was nothing new and a lot of minor characters were played by actors that we have seen before from The Office or Extras and they were playing the same type of characters again, with the same type of humour- so not very original in that sense. Stephen Merchant (for example) briefly played the lanky nerd (as usual!) Nonetheless, I did like the film.
live your dreams!!!!By a customer , 25 May 2012Superb film from start to finish, kind of predictable but great fun anyway, live your dreams!!!!! I enjoyed it from start to finish
WATCH IT!By a customer , 24 May 2012A real feel-good film with some of Ricky's brilliant dry humor in places. And a MK1 Capri less than 10 minutes in! Must watch!
