An unforgettable celebration of love, loss and new beginnings, Les Chansons d'Amour is a joyful homage to the French New Wave and Jacques Demy's classic The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Louis Garrel plays Ismael, a young man at the centre of a ménage-a-trois with his long-time girlfriend Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) and his work colleague Alice (Clotilde Hesme). But Ismael is feeling restless and Julie confides in her sister (Chiara Mastroianni) that she is unhappy with the situation; shortly after, fate intervenes and profoundly changes the destinies of all concerned. Beautifully photographed on the streets of Paris and featuring songs by acclaimed musician Alex Beaupain - brilliantly sung by the cast - Christophe Honoré's beguiling film is a vibrant tale of longing and romance.

This is a film for a younger fans who may live in the world where sexual and personal morals are much freer than the world as known and experienced by older generations. The 3 protagonists enjoy a relationship a trois [2 girls/1 boy] which develops into a lesbian arrangement and then after the death of one girl, the boy tries a homosexual arrangement. The film is typically French and is hightened with a wide selection of musical melodies accompanying scenes of Paris which is the major setting of all the action.
At it's best, it tries to show that love can be expressed in many different ways, but this may not be acceptable to many older people film buffs
strange strange film. quite an interesting premise at first but the bursting into song just kills it. after about 40 minutes was bored and uncomfortable, wondering when the next song would break out.
