An unforgettable celebration of love, loss and new beginnings, Les Chansons d'Amour is a joyful homage to the French New Wave and Jacques Demy's classic The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Louis Garrel plays Ismael, a young man at the centre of a ménage-a-trois with his long-time girlfriend Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) and his work .. Read more

This is a film for a younger fans who may live in the world where sexual and personal morals are much freer than the world as known and experienced by older generations. The 3 protagonists enjoy a relationship a trois [2 girls/1 boy] which develops into a lesbian arrangement and then after the death of one girl, the boy tries a homosexual arrangement. The film is typically French and is hightened with a wide selection of musical melodies accompanying scenes of Paris which is the major setting of all the action.
At it's best, it tries to show that love can be expressed in many different ways, but this may not be acceptable to many older people film buffs
Oh dear.Bad choice by moi!Wish I hadn't wasted my dosh.
I rented this because the description said it was like the classic Les parapluies de Cherbourg.
Well, it was in 2 ways: 1, it was French. 2, there was singing.
apart from that - not good - not bad. but don't rent if you are expecting something spectacular.

strange strange film. quite an interesting premise at first but the bursting into song just kills it. after about 40 minutes was bored and uncomfortable, wondering when the next song would break out.

Only watched half of it. It's a really charmless, boring film
This is a fantastic film. The best: the music
What a load of rubbish. This movie was so slow I fell asleep through boredom
the songs are nice, and actually they are the best parts of the film. however, don't be fooled by the nice trailer with the happy songs. if you liked the songs, then please go on watching the trailers or visiting youtube to see them, because the actual story of the film let me quite down. it starts great and fresh, in interesting french locations, and then goes downhill and unfolds depressingly. thanks god i didn't pay 5 quids to see this in my local cinema. i wouldn't recommend it to a friend (unless the friend is gay or lesb), but I'll leave it with a 3-star rating due to the songs (which are nice if taken unseriously) and some far-and-between laughs.
The normally radiant Ludivine Sagnier looks a bit knackered and worn down throughout this movie - perhaps her workload is getting too high. Despite some good performances from the supporting cast the plot is a bit draggy and not all that believable.
I should have listened to the previous reviewers instead of renting this on the strength of Sagnier's reputation.
