Chaplin's life was amazing and this film brought the story to life briliantly. The one downside is the lack of detail and had the film been longer to put more detail in I think it would have been better. The way the film rattles along another 20-30 mins wouldn't have been noticable. Robert Downey Jr is excellent as Chaplin and a strong supporting cast and well written script mean this is a another Attenborough classic. The film reveals much about the man, who for many was 'silent' and has the back drop of an evolving American society as a backdrop. Very moving in places and also very funny too! Doesn't paint Chaplin as a saint and doesn't try to hide his flaws but also showcases his genius and often bravery (both physical and moral) on camera. This is just a good old fashioned human drama backed by a great score. A real gem!!
