    [Highly rated reviewer]

'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' is based on the Roald Dahl novel of the same name. Dahl wrote many so called children's books but the stories were full of society critic. Tim Burton has followed Dahl very accurately and he has saved the critical voice of Dahl. With a lot of black humor and jokes makes the movie more than enjoyable experience.

Johnny Depp lights up every single movie he has been in, and Tim Burton always has a way of giving you a 'dark fairytale' vibe, which means it's the perfect combo...as we've have seen before in classics like Edward Scissorhands.

The inside of the factory is perfectly magical, and because of this, the movie had its final touch of greatness. Awesome musical score from Danny Elfman adds to this work perfection.

Wonderful direction, brilliant cast, make Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a tour through the factory that you cannot miss. It doesn't take a golden ticket to go see this film, so I recommend seeing it to anyone who hasn't already.

this has to be one of the most spectacular stories that all children adore. Once again Johnny teams up with tim burton to take this movie into the modern era with their eccentric spin.... but Im not sure it needed to go quite as far with all the graphics which for me took away from the film somewhat unlike the orignial??? but hey remakes are about innovating and being different and this is still a great re make. Great family fun for all. Where will this duo go next?

If you are a huge FAN of the original film, then i'm sure you will appreciate a modern version to add to your collection- That is so long as you don't miss the songs, the original Oompa Loompa's and are in no way freaked out by Johnny Depp's voice in this one. (he is trying to sound like Gene Wilder ... i think)

If you haven't ever seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, then send this disc back, or cancel your rental order and get the 1971 Gene Wilder version FIRST, its genius in comparison and the songs are infectious.

It looks good on the whole, but its massively OTT(and YES i have seen the original many times). To clear that up I would say that the original was OTT enough to feel magical, whereas this just feels fake and overexposed from the minute the factory is opened (like a CGI experiment). The Oompa Loompa's are creepy guitar playing chocoholics, Willy Wonka looks like he has been in Arkham Asylum for a few years and the child castings (apart from Charlie) and songs are completely forgettable.

On the up side, the family scenes are much more moving, and Charlie feels more believable, i really thought the opening scenes were great. The factory itself and Willy Wonka himself were massive disappointments.

Tim Burton’s remake of the 1971 classic with Johnny Depp taking over the Gene Wilder role of Willy Wonka.

I must admit I was expecting a lot more from this and especially as I’m a fan of Burton’s work but it never seems to find its feet.

It’s inevitable that comparisons will be made to the original and as I much as I like Johnny Depp he just doesn’t have enough screen presence as Wilder did.

I think if Burton had gone for his usual trademark dark and weird the film as a whole would have been more entertaining but instead it’s a very average and forgettable spectacle.

Danny Elfman does the music which isn’t bad but the songs again are nowhere as good as the 1971 version.
