    Classic with a capital C!

Corny, overly sentimental...and an absolute masterpiece! A Chaplin tour-de-force - he even wrote the fantastic musical score! And if the final scene doesn't make you shed a bucketful of tears...well, you are well hard!

    CHARMING

Charming charlie chaplin film, actions speak louder than words - so this film proves anyway. Hilarious and touching in good measure, this is a gem to be treasured.

    True Genius

Compared to much of the dross released today with mega-budgets and state-of-the-art effects, City Lights is stunning in its simplicity. I used to think Chaplin just slapstick, but he touches chords of pathos and human frailty with gentleness and humour. And the final scene! That look encapsualtes the whole film and will haunt me forever.

This is surely one of those movies which make you laugh every time you watch it. The boxing scene is definitely the highlight. This is social history with laugh!!

    Early Masterpiece

A true film, one that really does use visuals to tell a story. The moral tale of the tramp who dresses as a rich man to impress a blind girl has a suitably sentimental ending but this doesn't make any it any less touching or beautiful.

A favourite on every director's top ten list and rightly so. An expressionistic masterpiece, one of Chaplin's best.

    Silent Classic

Can't believe no-one's reviewed this before - the Chaplin film which looks and plays best today. Stands up well against any silent film.
