Nothing but a classicBy a customer from Ireland, west of the Shannon , 08 Sep 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]The master himself, on top form and in one of perhaps the top twenty of films that have been ever made. All the Chaplin ingredients, including as always social comment without preachiness, amid the hilarity and pathos. Never mind the fact that modern capitalism (thirties style) does not get a fair chance to state its case, Charlie Chaplin is a sufficient antidote to the power of advertising and consumerism, showing the down side of the American Dream.

I have just become a Charlie Chaplin fan!By axedog (3 reviews) , 21 Aug 2013This is the first Chaplin film I have ever watched, and I was bowled over by how much I enjoyed it. I really didn't expect such an old film to make me laugh so much. A true classic - highly recommended.
Modern classicBy RJNeb2 (1012 reviews) from London , 08 Mar 2013Chaplins last go-round as the Little Tramp (he was 47 at the time of filming and the make-up is starting to look a little odd) is still a charming and often very funny treatise on life in modern times. The best section is the opening one set in a factory with classic scene after classic scene, while the Tramps relationship with the lovely Goddard is perfectly charming. Although the sound era was eight years old at the time of production, Chaplin chose to make this a silent film and its none the worse for it.
Entertaining and uplifting - Charlie at his bestBy Abby88 (170 reviews) from Bognor Regis , 06 Jan 2013This is my favorite Charlie Chaplin film. It has a lot of funny scenes and a great story with many emotions. Deservedly a top film.
Chaplin at his very bestBy a customer , 05 Sep 2012Firstly, I was astonished at the technical quality of the images on the Blu-ray disc,no scratches or dirt on the superbly restored print. Astounding.
This is a truly great piece of film making and I was in tears with laughter throughout. Not to be missed if you haven't seen it.
A film to make you Smile.By 180laurai (8 reviews) , 27 Jun 2012What a beautiful film in all aspects.
Being my first exposure to a Charlie Chaplin film I was unsure what I was going to be watching. The reputation indicated something good but my expectations were gladly surpassed.
After seeing the other main Chaplin films since, I can safely say this is my favourite. The concepts addressed in this film, including unemployment, relationships and the 'cushy' life of prison inmates still resonate today and are all addressed in an irreverent and highly amusing way.
Even though silent, Chaplin conveys emotions incredibly well and can never be surpassed as a physical comedy actor.
The film made me laugh, cry and think which is more than can be said for some films that are in colour and use speech.
Highly recommended. This fil will capture your full attention from the start to the end.
