I was expecting a great deal more from the film and have to say that Kate Blanchett's looks were the only real high point of this film. She is captivating to watch and stunningly beautiful, but I did not find these qualities were enough to hold the rather weak story line together. This film does not rate within the same category as films such as 'Schindler's List' and 'The Pianist' as it seemed to me to be no more than a romantic vision of women at war. Whilst the film is watchable, it does not challenge the viewer and is a diluted vision of war. As I was watching 'Charlotte Gray' I kept thinking that I might have already seen the film on television. I then realised that this was because it is so like many of the tv representations that dilute and romanticise war.
