    well-meaning but inept

Why is it that with so many British-Asian films that try to break new grounds the words 'well-meaning' come to mind, along with 'inept'?

So many good ideas, so much of an atempt to address difficult issues like gayness among second-generation British Asians ... and so hopelessly done.

The cast is made up of every familiar Subcontinental actor in the UK, with Chris Bisson, the current rent-a-British-Asian-gay ('Shameless') in the main role, and what looks like the whole of Southall as extras.

The main problem, apart from the generally useless acting, is that there isn't the slightest element of credibility in the main gay relationship: the two actors barely touch until the very end, and even then it's a blokey arm-across-the-shoulders. I know this is done to avoid alienating conventional Asian audiences, but they threw in four-letter-words and the sounds of an overweight unmarried mother having sex, so why this coyness?

Good intentions badly put across. Sadly, not a good film.

    better than naan!

Fairly enjoyable, if somewhat unrealistic, movie where a basic understanding of asian gujarati hindu wedding ceremonies helps .. Harish Patel was very funny, as was the guy who played Jimi's brother .. Not quite sure why Jimi didn't want to marry Simran though .. she's a babe!

    OK comedy/drama

This film tells the tale of how 3 people manage to get themselves deeper and deeper into a series of lies about what their relationships are to each other. I cannot say much more without giving the plot away, suffice to say this film has a few funny moments and is reasonably well told. The obvious low-budget of this film shows through on more than a few occasion, but it is fairly well shot (and acted) and manages to get the ideas across pretty well. If you are thinking of renting this, the alternative East is East is a far superior film and comes highly recommended.

    Funny and entertaining!

Considering the reviews I read here before watching the movie, I didnt expect it to be half as good as it was. But It was surprisingly entertaining and fairly funny. It is a low budget movie and that shows but it's simple, entertaining and funny. Quite realistic as well!

    Bearable

A bit disappointing. This film has a predicatble plot and relies on tired cliche's and exagarrated indian accents to provide the comedy!

    It's just bearable!

    OOOH SHE'S AN IMPLAUSIBLE DO!

Good idea, but what a funny (odd plot) - the more I saw of this film the less 'real' it seemed. Passed a couple of hours and didn't actually make me angry - can't say more than that!

    An Okay Film

This is an okay film. Rent it only if you have nothing else to do. Better still give it a miss.
