Christmas With The Kranks

After faithfully and happily celebrating Christmas their entire lives, and with their daughter Blair in Peru to serve a stint in the Peace Corps, Luther and Nora Krank are facing the prospect of a very lonely holiday. One blustery Chicago night, Luther glances longingly at an alluring poster in a travel agency window and pictures himself and Nora basking in the glow of the sun on a Caribbean cruise. Though Nora is at first reluctant about going away for the holidays, she soon warms up to the idea. But when their neighbors find out, they are aghast, especially local busybody Vic Frohmeyer. To make matters worse, Luther refuses to put his illuminated Frosty the Snowman on his rooftop. Hemlock Street is famous for it and has won numerous contests sponsored by the local newspaper. The battle of wits between the Kranks and their neighbors quickly escalates, threatening the harmony of the community and, yes, the spirit of Christmas itself. Then, without warning, Luther and Nora get a call from Blair. She is coming home for Christmas after all and now the Kranks have less than twenty-four hours to get themselves and all the families on Hemlock Street back in the proper Christmas spirit.

No amount of seasonal spirit could inject any ho-ho-ho into this festive turkey. Adapted from John Grisham's novel Skipping Christmas, this is a soulless tale that raises so few laughs, it barely justifies its comedy label. Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis play the Kranks, a Chicago couple who incur the wrath of their local community when they decide to forgo Christmas and its associated trappings in favour of a luxury cruise. Poorly scripted and lazily directed, the film stamps all over individual thought and action, and instead celebrates herd mentality and excessive consumerism, unfairly painting its two lead characters as selfish villains. As the star of The Santa Clause movies, Allen is obviously used to Yuletide nonsense, but even he flounders when faced with such unfunny material. The real tragedy here is Curtis, however, who totally wastes her ample comic talents on slapstick and shameful mugging.

    Cashing In On Christmas

I don't think there was any point in this movie, i like a good comedy and usually laugh at silly stuff but the only reason i was laughing through this was at how poor the movie was, it seemed rushed and just looked like it was trying to cash in on the christmas festivites. Only rent this movie if your bored and haven't got anything better to do.

    DO NOT BOTHER

I went to see this at the cinema last christmas with a group of teenagers and we all said that it was awful. The comedy misses the mark by a mile and Jamie Lee Curtis is dreadful. This film really should have been funny and i still can not work out exactly what was missing. My advice is to choose something else!!!
