Early Oscar winner

If you read any polls about which Oscar Best Film winner is the best, you wont find Cimarron anywhere near the top of that list. In fact, it generally resides near the bottom. This is a little unfair for, while the acting can be a little overwrought, the film is nevertheless a fascinating account of the growth of Oklahoma from a frontier land to a prosperous oil state, focusing on one family. Well, family is technically not that accurate, seeing as the father figure (Dix) spends most of his time abandoning his loved ones in pursuit of the next big adventure. Still, its a good account of a nation in transition.- Was this review helpful to you?
