Kansas City 1935. Prohibition rules and the mobs run the streets. Clint Eastwood is hard-nosed Lt. Speer, a cop with an unhealthy disrespect for Private Investigators who do things their own way. Burt Reynolds is Mike Murphy, a P.I. who does what he likes and doesn't mind letting Speer know it. Murphy's partner Dehl Swift (Richard Roundtree), a cool black dude with a line in fancy suits, sees a chance to retire by ripping off the local underworld kingpin and setting him up against the heavyweight from the next block. But Dehl's in too deep and when he ends up playing side salad to a car bonnet, Murphy has to pick up the pieces.

Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds were dream casting, but this comedy thriller got off to a bad start. Originally called Kansas City Jazz, it had been written by Blake Edwards, who was also to direct. But Eastwood and Edwards disliked each other from their first meeting — according to Reynolds, Edwards brought out caviar and champagne when Eastwood is a beer and pretzels kinda guy — so exit Edwards and enter director Richard Benjamin. Despite the on-set problems, City Heat is decent entertainment — a nostalgic sprint through Prohibition-era Kansas City, with Eastwood as a cop and Reynolds as a private eye, who team up and clear the town of gangsters. Both stars lampoon themselves with accustomed ease and try hard to re-create the chemistry of Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy in Boom Town.

Broadsword
BroadSword calling Danny Boy! What a quality film, Burton is terrific and Clint is well Clint and a 2nd rate punk at that. Great war film, makes having a cold seem pathetic with what Burton goes through.

Must Watch!!!
The only war movie that comes remotely close to this war epic for me is 'Saving Private Ryan'. The latter having the obvious luxury of time. Where Eagles Dare made way back in 1968.
Even by today's standards Where Eagles Dare is exceptional. Fantastic acting all round, great story and a catchy tune throughout. You will not be dissapointed with this movie.
Look out for the top SS guy (Anton Diffring). Would have made a perfect Thunderbirds character. -
