Billy Crystal and chums Daniel Stern and Bruno Kirby are the city folk who get the chance to play at Rawhide in this winning comedy blockbuster which cleaned up at the box office. Seeking to stave off middle age, the trio join a motley group who have volunteered to drive cattle across the range under the eye of irascible old cowboy Jack Palance. Despite some worryingly sentimental moments of male bonding, this is an engaging, expertly played piece, which gently pokes fun at both middle-aged angst and the Wild West. Palance, in particular, has a ball, and picked up a best supporting actor Oscar for his performance, while director Ron Underwood, who before this was best known for the cult sci-fi film Tremors, proves to be equally adept at the gags and the large-scale, traditional western set pieces.

More realistic!!!
Normally films about women problems growing up or when they have grown up. Its about time they made a film about a man who is lost and needs to find himself again.
When other films attempt this, it involves the guy sleeping with another woman and then realise how much he loves his family and fights for them back. This is different, coz he still loves his family but just has reached a point in his life where he needs to know the meaning in his life. Men can relate to this more as its realistic and doesn't involve the man cheating.
More movies like this please and women could understand things from a male point of view as we get millions of films where we see the women point of view -
great film, great actors,great story line, dont get lost in the film either, a classic for me

Billy Crystal has a few amusing one liners, but thats about it.
Characters are all one dimensional. Story is over sentimental and utterly precictable.
Found myself looking the timer on the DVD seeing how long left. Always a bad sign.
Cameo from Jack Palance was painful. So old he could hardly move!! -

Cheesy but still fun
It's not hilarious, but can be pretty funny, and the characters can be annoying at times..but its still pretty good. Worth a watch.

Not a blockbuster, but still an enjoyable film to watch when there's nothing on but Eastenders or reality TV. Jack Palance is the real star, but unfortunately has very little screen time. Ideal rainy Sunday afternoon film.

Thank god for Jack
Far from being a comedic work of art the appeal of this film, and it's sequel, is mostly nostalgic, rather than a burning desire to see, some fifteen years late, Billy Crystal's neurotic and sardonic wise cracking. Whilst still moderately amusing, predictably enough though the grizzled and grumpy Jack Palance stole the show, not a very hard task, and the overly long opening credits ran like an episode of the Pink Panther. Never-the-less, it was relatively fun feeling 10 again, seeing what the early nineties had to offer: aside from a very small Jake Gyllenhaal in his movie debut, a warm fuzzy story about mankind's ability to shew cows.
