    [Highly rated reviewer]

This is a competent retread of the 1981 classic Clash of the Titans. The acting is decent, the story is simple and the effects and the action are of blockbuster standards. A movie which doesn't ruin our memories of the original, and gives the new generation of kids something they will remember, the rest of us will think it was okay. It doesn't stand out that much. My recommendation would be wait for it to come out on DVD.

Poor remake of a film which for all its faults did not need remaking. The charm of the original was lost amidst violence and special effects. Don't rent this, watch the original instead (which I did recently) and it is miles better.

This is an insult to the original , 30 years on and the original is better , the director should be ashamed of himself , the story line was poor and the knowledge of Greek myths are so bad Pegasus is a black horse etc , wasted over an hour of my life on this

2010 and the latest 3D revolution was in its infancy; there were a series of films that were panned as not being shot in 3D, but altered in post i. e. adding the 3D effects after filing has finished. The worst culprit was reportedly `Clash of the Titans' and its obvious fake 3D. Fast forward to now and we already live in an 'I don't care about 3D world', especially at home. The only effect 3D has on me is if the film on my 2D TV has obvious moments designed just for the third dimension. With only the usual dimensions to worry about I was able to watch `Clash' on its own merits and discover that perhaps it was a little rubbish, but at least it was fun. `Clash' tells the story of Perseus, a Demi-God who takes it upon himself to help man by hunting Medusa and killing the Kraken. This is a daft film best personified by the casting of charisma vacuum Sam Worthington as the lead. He seems to be living of the fame of starring in `Avatar', when everyone knows the star of that film was the blue people and 3D effects. Worthington is as dull as ever, but at least he fades away to allow you to enjoy some of the better moments. The rest of the cast is full of criminally underused character actors including Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, and Mads Mikkelsen. All of them do a good job and give the film weight. Nicholas Hoult and Gemma Arterton also turn up, two fine young British actors who are underused even more than most. You get the feeling that director Louis Leterrier struggled to wield this epic tale, too many cast members mean that no one gets a chance to shine. Were Louis Leterrier does do a good job is in the empty headed action sequences. It is these CGI moments that make or break this type of blockbuster and although the effects are dodgy in a couple of places, the set pieces themselves are well directed and vibrant. The HD does really make the film pop and the film should be seen on BluRay. With a limp lead, lacklustre story and sometimes problematic effects, `Clash of the Titans' should be a write off. It is distinctly average and will be forgotten in time for the more charming original take on the story. However, playing spot the underused star and the action makes the film fun to watch and perfectly passable entertainment.

I was quite surprised by this film. I liked the original but wasn't keen on this film's prequel so didn't have high expectations. In fact it turned out very enjoyable and the CG and landscapes are spectacular in HD. The storyline was good, allowing for the obvious Hollywoodisation, and the acting solid enough for the genre. And happily it went easy on the wisecracks, totally omitting any comedy character that unfortunately seems a staple part of most Hollywood 'action' offerings. Overall I liked it, recommended.
