An insight into the making of Phil Collin's solo album debut, 'Face Value'. After a successful career as drummer for prog-rockers Genesis during the Seventies, the turn of the decade saw Phil deciding to strike out on his own. The result was a record that spent six years in the British Top 75 and yielded hit singles like 'In The Air Tonight', 'I Missed Again' and 'If Leaving Me Is Easy'. This video features rare archive footage of the recording process, interviews with the musicians who contributed to it, and an interview with engineer Hugh Padgham, who reveals exactly what was on the original master tapes.

As things go

As things go, this video is definitely the most disappointing of the "Classic Albums" series. It ultimately concentrated on Phils' song writing and performances using other artists. It mentions too about him making this album very personal and even writing down the text that was to appear on the cover sleeve. Ultimately I would not say as a fan, that this was not Phils best album.

At only an hour one feels that the programme should have at least some input from his family, since he supposedly had some influence from family troubles around the time this album was created. Even the most hardened Phil Collins and Genesis fans will be disappointed with this one!

If you like Phil Collins then this is a good dvd to watch. Gives a good insight into the making of the album.
