This is one of the best in the 'Classic Albums' series and provides a fascinating insight of the making of Steely Dan's Aja.
Many of the episodes in this series suffer from below-par performances when the band or artist perform the revisted tracks.
Not so with this one - the jam session towards the end is jaw-droppingly awesome. It creates the perfect effect of making the viewer want to listen to this amazing album immediately.
Very classy.
Becker and Fagen - the masters of minutiae, waxing lyrical about how long it took them to put this album together. They work through, track by track, illuminating the viewer with small facets of brilliance that would probably go unheard unless they were, as they are here, pointed out - like Michael McDonald's near insanity trip trying to achieve the near-impossible harmonies that the two gurus wanted.
If you're into 'The Dan' - then you'll love this because it's just so THEM! Full of interesting pointers, facts and interviews with the musicians that played on the album.
I love it.
