Surprising
By PLR (12 reviews) from Wakefield, West Yorkshire , 20 Apr 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Just when you think that this film has nothing to offer you suddenly realise that it's getting surprisingly good! Pheonix is wonderful as a rather unfortunate character who seems to attract bad luck from the word go... A well-chosen cast act out a plot full of twists and turns to a very satisfying conclusion... a film well worth watching.- Was this review helpful to you?

Transfer quality
By RayL (12 reviews) from Frodsham , 05 Mar 2008Just a warning: this really entertaing movie is presented in 4:3 format with just a stereo sound track. So annoying especially since the trailer is given in 16:9 and the credits show that they had gone to the trouble of recording it with a THX sound track.
Indeed there's a line in the movie where they are watching Alien on TV and comment that it is not well served by this format!

A lame duck
By a customer from London , 19 Oct 2006This had all the markings of a dark, indie delight, and yet after a strong start the story jars with every ensuing turn.
Charting the darkly comic events when a small town loser is confused for a serial killer, this never really gets going. Its not funny enough, nor is it dark enough. It gets nowhere near the offbeat Coen brothers-esque tone it aims for, and for a small budget indie film has a criminally underwritten script.
Boasting a glazed-eyed performance from Joaquin Phoenix and an over-played and embarrassing turn from Vince Vaughn, the only thing to write home about is the standout comic asides of Janeane Garafolo.- Was this review helpful to you?

Take a chance on this
By a customer from Belfast, Northern Ireland , 23 Sep 2006I caught this movie half way through on TV one night and was thoroughly intrigued. I just had to rent it to get the whole story, and wasn't disappointed. This is the type of film that will be hit or miss, but I found it funny and compelling. There are some good performances and a great soundtrack. Don't expect a classic, but worth a go if you've seen all your top choices and are looking for something a bit different.- Was this review helpful to you?
