Joaquin Phoenix, Janeane Garofalo and Vince Vaughn embark on a simultaneously entertaining and harrowing road trip in this black comedy about double-double-cross and serial killing in Montana. Phoenix stars as Clay, a young man with a past who is befriended by a serial killer — and every woman Clay introduces to him seems to wind up dead. Bringing a unique and satirical edge to the weather-beaten sleazy crime genre, this Ridley Scott production features a great golden oldie soundtrack and cinematography that's reminiscent of early Gus Van Sant and Jim Jarmusch movies. Director David Dobkin pulls off the difficult balance of brooding imagery and light comedy with a strong signature style of his own.
A blackish comedy of escalating disaster that rarely strikes the requisite heartless tone; a little more wit might have helped.
Just a warning: thiis really entertaing movie is presented in 4:3 fornat with just a stereo sound track. So annoying especially since the trailer is given in 16:9 and the credits show that they had gone to the trouble of recording it in THX sound track.
Indeed there's a line in the movie where they are watching Alien on TV and comment that it is not well served by this format!

A well-chosen cast act out a plot full of twists and turns to a very satisfying conclusion... a film well worth watching.

"The only thing I can think of doing is maybe for fun doing a Thanksgiving episode. Our Thanksgiving episodes were really fun," she said. Fuelling the rumour mill further, Courtney Cox (Scream, The... Read more
