Before playing Batman, Keaton took on some roles which were different to his usual light fair. This is a fine example of him doing this. You really get the feeling that he is going through hell, a character who starts out kidding himself that there is nothing wrong, but as his life slides down the pan. It occurs to him he must change for the better of himself and those around him. It is a film which always moves me with its powerful performances, particularly Morgan Freeman as a councellor.
