This is a well acted and emotionally charged film. It tells the story of a woman trying to change her ways after a drug fuelled lifestyle lost her everything. To get her son back she must prove she can stay 'clean'. Maggie Cheung is pure class, with Nick Nolte providing solid support. This is an arduous journey, but well worth it in the end. How can a film that uses obscure Eno songs in the soudtrack be bad?
I have no idea what Nick Nolte was thinking when he took this part. Someone must have told him that it's good to be in film noir that has no script, no characters, no actors and no justification for being made into a movie. The film is apparently about a female heroin addict who, spookily enough, goes straight after a six month prison term in Canada for possession; in the UK she would have been given therapy and received an apology because it was clearly society's fault. She's keen to rebuild her relationship with her son and recommence the music career she clearly never had before her addiction. Empty, boring and emminently forgettable.
