Maggie Cheung is at the top of her gamw .a Beautiful actress who can morph into the most likeable and unlikeable character within the same scene. Her Irma Vep director olivier assayas shows signs of the frenetic style that worked so well in that earlier film. however in this film , It is the script that drags down all and sundry - the supposedly natual dialogue does seem a little clunky and the meandering scene changes from canada to london to paris to san fransisco would make James Bond dizzy. However Maggie Cheung seems to be able act convincingly in french , mandarin and english ! Nick Nolte is also on hand with a very gruff paternal performance. Ms Cheung was awarded the 2004 best actress award in Cannes - i would have loved to see her win an oscar one day as she can clearly hold her own against any legendary hollywood actress.
