High adventure and vertigo blend with blood and bullets to make this tension-packed tall tale a spectacular avalanche of dizzying escapism. Sylvester Stallone plays the rock-climbing Rocky clone who loses his nerve during the opening peak rescue and must find it again when a gang of desperate criminals crash-lands during a blizzard on his mountain manor. Nail-biting stunts and photography that's close to the edge are the true stars of this alpine Die Hard, directed with breathless energy by Renny Harlin.
"...CLIFFHANGER lives up to is title as a two-hour rollercoaster ride that never stops from first minute to last. A high-octane action suspenser with thrilling vertiginous footage unlike anything seen before in a feature..."
Enjoyably silly action adventure, with some spectacular, edgy stunts, although it never touches reality at any point and has one of the more ludicrous lip-smacking villains this side of melodrama.
Great film, straight into the action no messing !Wonderful scenery. Not a bad story line.Sad at times ,you feel for them.First class leading lady.
AFTER MANY YEARS OF PRACTICE - THIS IS SLY'S FIRST DECENT MOVIE, IN WHICH HE DOESN'T PLAY A TOTAL MEATHEAD
saw this in the cinema, you must see this on a huge tv with awesome surround sound.definately the best stallone movie ever, also possibly the greatest opening sequence, until saving private ryan came along at least. action all the way 5 stars

Here your nerves get seriously jangled. But you take off stunts and Stallone and theres not enough left.
The script is interesting and twisted with a lot of surprises, yet a little lack of credibility. Many opportunities to spice things up have been missed out and compensated with stunt effects.
There is a real stab at the directing to create interseting characters with a psychology and good dialogs, but you will have to lower your expectations half way through. Most of the protagonists will not spectacularly crop up in the middly of the action to turn the situation around but Stallone, of course and most of them will just be killed. Its kinda pathetic.
Now, if you enjoy a ride on a roller coaster with a great deal of bruises and an entertainig plot, you will not be disappointed.
We always watch this when it comes on the tv, it never occured to us to purchase it, but this has definatley has to go on our all time favourate list.
The story begins sad, but .........
emotion is then taken over by shear grit and determination to succeed.
Well worth watching.
This film was full of spectacular scenery and action. The action started from the beginning and was there right to the end. It made you feel heartily against the baddies as it was rescue men who they were fighting against in their bid to get their hands on the money. Spellbinding, a good watch.
Sylvester Stallone apart from movies with boxing in them this one was rather good ... snow falling , danger all around and ambiguity as well ... well the movie starts in the tradtional way with him being blamed for the death of his collegues missus .. and then good acting comes into play when Richard Stilgoe has terrosim and money on his mind ...
To me this film was great, but the ending should have had a cliffhanger!
Gabe Walker (Sylvester Stallone) is a member of a mountain climbing rescue team. When one of his operations goes wrong and the girlfriend of his best friend, Hal Tucker (Michael Rooker), is killed, Gabe blames himself and leaves. Eight months later, after setting up a life in Denver, he returns to the mountains to persuade his lover, Jessie (Janine Turner), to come with him. While he's there, a call for help comes in and Gabe decides to become involved in one last rescue attempt. However, unknown to him, the rescue call is a fake, put out by a group of hijackers stranded in the mountains after the crash of their plane. Led by the psychotic Qualen (John Lithgow), they're after three suitcases of money (100 million dollars) that are lost somewhere in the peaks and valleys of the Colorado Rockies. it's a typical action flick.

"...The special effects seen here are as perfect and hard-won as [Stallone's] musculature, and that's saying a lot..."
