Old people have sex???????
By Minny (567 reviews) from London , 22 Feb 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a very brave film really because there is lots of nudity and sex and the stars are in their 70's. It is a very frank film and will not be to everyone's taste. My teenage daughter thought it was yuck but then some people think sexual desire is only for the young and beautiful. It is a stark film without an ounce of Hollywood in it and it's realistic quality makes it a film that is different.- Was this review helpful to you?

(7)A Journey without a destination.
By Mickeyschoice (9 reviews) from Sturminster Newton , 03 May 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
The husband in this film enjoys train journeys in his retirement - not to go anywhere in particular but for the journey itself. This is an allegory for the state of the thirty year old marriage explored in this kind and compassionate film. Did I read that there are comic undertones? If so, I failed to find them. There was one rather laboured joke - a German joke, perhaps. This is a truthful, sad film about the madness of love and how age is no barrier to the ravages that passion can wreak on dull and ordinary lives. Inge falls in love at sixty and although she laments that she didn't expect it or mean it to happen - the results are tragic. Elderly sex is given a frank exposure and this makes a radical change from the usual Hollywood airbrushed and youthful physical perfection, and it is all the more true and touching for that.- Was this review helpful to you?

A little disappointing
By trinny (3 reviews) from London , 05 Mar 2011Despite the brave subject matter (the sex life of the older generation) which at times had me peeking at the tv from behind my hands, I still felt that this film was going to be an interesting one when it got going. The sad thing is it never really went anywhere and the end left me disappointed.- Was this review helpful to you?

Passion among the seniors
By a customer from Innerleithen , 31 Mar 2010This is a very unusual film that reminds the viewer that overpowering passion and reckless behaviour are not confined to the young. It's a story of a love triangle between three people in their 60s and 70s with some fairly explicit scenes included, I guess, to emphasize that physical perfection is not a prerequisite for sexual desire or pleasure. It's a slow-moving film that takes its time to build up the three main characters before the final outcome is revealed.- Was this review helpful to you?

About the old.
By Nitaray (222 reviews) from Farnham , 28 Feb 2010In England, we don't like thinking about old people's naked bodies, let alone watch them having sex. The Germans, like the Scandanavians, are more free-thinking about such matters, and this German film tackles the subject of age and sex full on. It is brave and admirable, but I doubt that it will appeal to English audiences under 60.
The part of Inge, the plain, sixty-something mother in question, is played by a wonderful actress. called Helen Verner, You wonder at her ability to attract a lover, even an old man like Karl, But through sheer talent and no thanks to make-up artists, she blossoms before your eyes into a vibrant, passionate and love-hungry woman.
Most of the film is shot in close-up and this could be a little too real for some; but the humorous banter that goes on between the two lovers helps to lighten the mood.
It may not be to everyon'e taste, but I felt there was nothing to criticise and much to admire, so am awarding it full marks.- Was this review helpful to you?
