Three-part Australian mini-series adapted by Tim Winton from his 1991 novel. The series tells the story of the intertwining lives of two working-class families who live together at One Cloud Street in the Perth suburb of West Leederville over a 20-year period from the mid-1940s to the 1960s. The two families could not be more different: the Lambs are sober, industrious and devoutly religious, while the Pickles clan, headed by patriarch and inveterate gambler Sam (Stephen Curry), are 'nothing but trouble'. But as the 'shifty shadow' of fate moves over them, with world events and personal tragedies unfolding around them, both families somehow manage to retain their warmth and humanity as they negotiate their way through life's many trials and tribulations.

Beautiful and atmospheric storytelling

We absolutely LOVED IT!! I don't understand how someone on 31 Dec described it as boring as watching paint dry...(maybe that's the sort of person who gave the latest Steven Seagal offering 5 out of 5?) I can't comprehend it actually. I haven't read the book but I can imagine this version has evoked it very well. The characters are so full of personality,the atmosphere is so rich and the photography is so absolutely beautiful. I can't recommend it enough. We tried to buy the soundtrack,which is also very beautiful and it's only on mp3 download. We've just watched MONTHS back to back of Swedish Wallander dvds which we didn't think we could move on from and this was a refeshing and beautiful change x

Slow with no substance

As boring as watching paint dry - plot moving so slow it will be quicker to write your memoirs! Had to turn it off!
