This energetic third feature from American comedy group Broken Lizard aims much higher than its predecessors. Unlike 2001's limp Super Troopers, the film has an obvious plot (albeit derivative) and a relatively coherent structure, even if it's not sure what genre it wants to be. A schlocky horror comedy, it plays like Scary Movie meets Cabin Fever, as a machete-wielding psycho picks off the incompetent staff at the booze-soaked party resort of Coconut Pete's Pleasure Island. Although contemporary chillers have long been mixing ironic humour with scares, the group takes the trend to new levels by blending juvenile, goofball laughs with extreme gore. It won't have much appeal beyond its target teen audience, but the combination does make the jumpy moments more unexpected. Such an inconsistent approach also helps camouflage the abysmal acting, particularly that of island owner Bill Paxton whose washed-up pop star turn is cringe-worthy.
From the comedy troupe that created the lamentable Super Troopers (qv) comes an even worse mess of feeble jokes and broad acting.
If you rent this film bare one thing in mind it is totally tongue in cheek!!
From the ham acting to the obvious slasher set-pieces. The director even takes a cringing role at a dreadlocked english snob who coaches tennis.
Okay it may not be in the same league as the first Scream but you will chortle.
Best described as an Amateur Dramatics company presentation of Friday the 13th meets Porks.
Trite, badly acted, full of spoof characters, ridiculous - but not as bad as you might think from all this! It's quite funny and quirky - not the worst film I've seen by far!
Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" has hit the top of the US box office chart. The controversial Biblical epic took £40.7 million in its opening weekend. In fact its takings since its opening on Wednesday have only been surpassed by "The Return of the King". The film sparked controversy when eminent Jewish leaders condemned it as ant-Semitic, it has also been described as "too violent" by some church groups. Last week's number one film - "50 first...
