A great idea for a film and very well implemented, too!

It's not often in the last 20 years or so that an original idea has been committed to celluloid, but Clue is one of those rare breeds - a movie you haven't seen twenty times before.
Based on the classic board game, all your favourite characters are in there; Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard Miss Scarlet etc. and they are played by a very capable cast which includes Christopher Lloyd and Lesley-Ann Warren.
Clue's key selling point is that it refuses to take itself seriously - it is played out at an impossibly fast pace, with both subtle and slapstick humour throughout, and at times is more like a stage show than a movie.
Various people keep dropping dead for all manner of reasons, as you the viewer watch and attempt to piece together your own version of events at home, as it all unfolds - just like the game!
The DVD is nicely presented with the option to view all the different endings - which for once with a DVD release, are definitely worth watching!
An overlooked gem of a movie, in a very well put-together DVD!- Was this review helpful to you?

(58)According to Wikepedia this film has a cult following
By Spectator (38 reviews) , 14 Apr 2013[Highly rated reviewer]
and I'm not surprised. Well acted, excellent cast, excellent script, excellent set and well directed. An all round excellent spoof. You would expect the script to be good as it was co-written by Jonathan Lynn ('Yes Minister' and 'Yes Prime Minister' etc.). The whole cast was good but for me Tim Curry stole the film, one of his best. I did a little research and found that Cluedo was originally designed and invented in the UK in 1944 just a few years after the first publication Agatha Christie's novel 'And then there were none' . I wonder if the novel provided some of the inspiration for the game? Eitherway its interesting to watch both films (one a spoof and one serious) and compare them. I am sorry to say that though I thoroughly enjoyed the film it failed the 'Did my wife stay awake throughout' test quite badly. Bit of a surprise as she had said she was looking forward to seeing it. Still loses a star though.- Was this review helpful to you?

What a waste!
By Basso (10 reviews) , 19 Mar 2012Great idea for a movie plus a good cast wasted on terrible script. The tone is set by the first running gag being based on someone treading in dog dirt so you get the picture! We lasted 15mins.- Was this review helpful to you?

Surprising and entertaining
By Reenita (5 reviews) , 10 Aug 2011Although it comes with three endings you wouldn't expect any of them. I spent the whole movie trying to figure out who was the killer but at some point everything gets confusing. Didn't expect it to be so funny.- Was this review helpful to you?
