She's going to discover that, when it comes to matters of the heart, she's... clueless.

Would you believe a loose adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma plonked down squarely in Beverly Hills 90210? Well, that's the setting for this screamingly funny satire-cum-put-on, which perfectly captures the inanities of contemporary teen America. Alicia Silverstone is a delight as Cher, the chic but dippy blonde who's devoted to improving the love lives of her Rodeo Drive-shopping high-school girlfriends, even though she can't sort out her own. Together with her best friend Dionne (Stacey Dash), Cher indulges in the trials and tribulations of designer-label animosity and MTV promiscuity, while her lawyer father (Dan Hedaya) and intellectual stepbrother (Paul Rudd) look on in total bemusement. Like Heathers before it, director Amy Heckerling's smart satire sharpens its comedic scalpel on the manners and mores of self-centred fashion victims. A quick note about the Clueless lingo: majorly means very, do-able means sexually attractive, a hottie is a do-able babe and a Baldwin is a gorgeous hunk. While mainly aimed at teens, like all fine comedies it will appeal to anyone with a wicked sense of humour and taste for the ironic. It's also one of those rare comedies which remains funny even when not delivering great one-liners. Examples? What did you do in school today? Oh, I broke in my purple clogs; What's the point of learning to park when every place you go to has a valet?; My plastic surgeon doesn't want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose. You'll have to watch the movie to hear the hilariously vulgar riposte to the latter.
A surprisingly successful comedy about a girl who loves to shop, an activity that satisfies when all else fails. The dialogue is witty, the performances are smart and the tone is one of affectionate amusement touched with a little irony; the result is gre
Cher Horowitz and her friend Dionne, two of the most popular sophomores in school, play matchmakers for two teachers. Inspired by their success, Cher takes under her wing Tai, a 'clueless' transfer student. While trying to make an advantageous match for Tai, Cher attempts to find a boyfriend of her own. Several misfires take place, due to poor communication, before she finds the Baldwin of her dreams.
Funny all the way through, simple plot, easy to watch, pure entertainment. There's just nothing to hate this film for. It's damn near perfect.
Alicia Silverstone stars as matchmaker Cher in this Beverly Hills reworking of Jane Austen's Emma.
Cher - coolest girl in school, incredibly ditzy - and her best friend Dion love to see how their matchmaking plans work out, so when a new girl (Brittany Murphy) turns up at school, they can't wait to give her a makeover and find her a guy. But in spite of Cher's skills fixing up her friends, she can't seem to get herself a beau of her own, especially with dorky step-brother Josh (Paul Rudd) in the way.
This is a great feelgood romcom, whose writer hits the spot with her observation of 15-year-olds' slang. This is itself is an entertainment but there are some funny moments as Cher tries to argue her way out of "harsh" bad grades and even a failed driving test. One for the girls - get your Ben & Jerry's out on a Friday night in and giggle along.
Sexy actress Alicia Silverstone loves to trim her hedges and mow her lawn in the nude. The green-fingered former Batgirl admits she loves to strip off while gardening. She tells America's Health magazine, "It probably started when I was doing my garden the first time. Id be out there, and it would be scorching hot, so I would take off all of my clothes and garden. "And then I would jump in the pool and swim - and I always get in the pool naked, because why would you want to put on a bathing... Read more
