Cobb the man not the baseball player

Reasonable biopic of the greatest baseball player ever focusses very much on Cobb the man instead of Cobb the player. Cobb was a player loathed by opponents and spectators throughout baseball and his sporting achievements take a back seat to a character study which reveals a particularly horrid person without exploring it well enough. If you don't know anything about Cobb you're unlikely to learn anything about why he is considered the greatest of all-time and will wonder why he warrants the film treatment. There's so much of interest here and yet Cobb doesn't strike out with any depth around him and ends up being another average biopic.- Was this review helpful to you?
