    [Highly rated reviewer]

Mesmerising is the word used in the marketing of this movie and mesmerising it is. Tatou is utterly convincing and stunning in the lead role as a young Coco who rebels against the excesses of French society and somehow combines a fragile vulnerability with a steely toughness. Not an easy trick to pull off but she does so flawlessly. If I say any more I am likely to spoil it for you, but the filming and everything else about it do not disappoint either. A high point in Tatou's already glittering career and harbinger of more great performances to come.

As per usual, Audrey Tautou stars in a film which is only considered great because it happens to be French and has been released in UK cinemas. There are plenty of wonderful French films; sadly, this isn't one of them.

  • Truly fantastique!

We rented it because the reviews were good but we still had a little bit of doubt we were going to enjoy it and how wrong we were! What a fantastic story and being a true story even more entertaining; so well played by Audrey Tautou...kept us wanting more and loved the fact that is was in French.

  • True to life and Audrey Tautou is a delight

A true story of a vulnerable and yet strong willed woman - one of survival and overcoming obstacles. Coco Chanel like many pioneers was visionary and brought about a change in fashion towards simple elegance and design. The movie focuses on her relationships before she became famous - 2 very different ones but both very instrumental in what she went on to achieve. Audrey Tautou who plays Coco Chanel is very adept in these roles - of strong, sad and vulnerable women (watch also 'Delicacy' a beautiful film where she also stars).Tautou here even physically resembles the real Coco Chanel. This is a lovely film - gentle and touching without being overly sentimental - worth a watch.

  • Audrey plays a great part

Can only repeat what has already been said. You are probably already in love with either Mlle Chanel, Audrey Tatou or a francophile so you will love this film. Personally I think Audrey is too good looking for the part, Mlle Chanel was striking rather than out and out pretty like Audrey. But this is probably a jealous/churlish comment to make and let's face it Chanel was in the fashion not film industry!!!

I adore Audrey Tautou already, but my love for her has grown even more so, upon watching her bring coco to life in this film! She was beautiful, witty and amazingly driven and talented for a woman of her time. True inspiration.
