Mesmerising is the word used in the marketing of this movie and mesmerising it is. Tatou is utterly convincing and stunning in the lead role as a young Coco who rebels against the excesses of French society and somehow combines a fragile vulnerability with a steely toughness. Not an easy trick to pull off but she does so flawlessly. If I say any more I am likely to spoil it for you, but the filming and everything else about it do not disappoint either. A high point in Tatou's already glittering career and harbinger of more great performances to come.

Audrey Tautou is perfect in her role of the 'garçonne' who dressed likea men and wanted comfort for women.

Very intelligent even though she didn't relaise her dream of being an actress she made key encounters and the rest is history.

this could have been a good film except it was in a foreign language, managed to follow the story to a certain degree, but felt it would have been better in english

Audrey Tautou is as beautiful as ever and for that and the style alone, this film would be worth watching. It shows how the Chanel look developed, which I found interesting. Not the deepest film ever but lovely to look at and entertaining to watch.

  • As elegant as a Chanel gown

Audrey Tatou certainly looks the part in this drop dead gorgeous bio-pic and she manages to catch Chanel’s wounded brittleness perfectly.

The film tells the story of the early life of one of the world’s most celebrated designers with deftness and insight. We see how both her fierce independence and her revolutionary take on women’s fashion develop alongside each other as she flits between lovers.

Her principal amorata - the buffoonish count with his boorish friends on the one hand and the debonair English bounder Boy Capel both reveal more about her personal and artistic development. The film, like Chanel’s taste which we see emerging as she is influenced by Brittany fisherman’s jerseys and Capel’s well cut suits amongst other looks, is ultra smart.

I had to watch this over two nights as it was quite long, but it was so interesting and beautifuly filmed . I loved the subtle references to Chanel's influences for her future designs, and the story was fascinating - i now want to watch/read more about the life of this amazing woman. Audrey Tatou was perfectly cast in this role
