In this sci-fi sequel, director Daniel Petrie strains far too hard to recapture the touching whimsy of Ron Howard's original film and succeeds only in producing a mawkish melodrama. Although the ever-dapper Don Ameche reprises his Oscar-winning role of Art Selwyn, there is much less of a spring in his step, and fellow old folks Wilford Brimley and Hume Cronyn are clearly equally uncomfortable with a script in which an emphasis on the joy of living has been overlaid with a glum resignation to the consolation prizes of old age. The performances remain endearing, however, and it can still raise a tear if you're in the mood.

    STILL A TIMELESS CLASSIC

Although not as successful or skillfully executed as the original 'Cocoon', this is still one of those films that is vastly more entertaining than most of the big-budget dross that is produced today.

If ther is one weakness it is, unfortunatley, Steve Guttenberg, who just couldn't shake his 'Police Academy' persona off completely. And, although he is extremely watchable, this and the fact that a number of the effects are distinctly disadvantaged by the clarity of DVD, are the only criticism of what is still a really good film.

You'll love it! Watch and see!

I found this movie to be an unexpected delight! It was engaging well written and executed, and it left me with a great feeling when it was over! What more could you ask for? Well how about the endearing performances, and chemistry between Hume Cronyn, and Jessica Tandy? Not to mention Don Ameche and Wilford Brimley. All together you have a fine film with many levels of warmth, and good humour. You'll love it! Watch and see!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the plot centres on a couple going through a divorce who team up to find their son after he vanishes. It could be a return to bigger movie projects... Read more
