What a load of rubish! The photography is good, the dialogue is crap. I just coulnd't watch it.

(156)Trying to be indie without actually being indie - Not everyones cup of coffee
By Bazcat (7 reviews) , 05 Apr 2013After 50 minutes I turned this off. I couldn't decide whether I was confused by, intrigued by or enjoying this movie, but when it got to the 50 minute mark and I still couldn't make up my mind I decided not to bother continuing.
Whilst I like the occasional cult such as The Rules of Attraction and Donnie Darko and the odd indie flick such as In Search of a Midnight Kiss, this one seemed to be trying to hard to be just that. Some big names and skilled performers help to keep the acting of a high calibre but the script itself can be quite dull and hard to keep your attention. Not something you'd bother watching more than once.
Before watching this, a friend told me 'Doing something different deserves attention, not necessarily praise'. While this movie seems like it has potential to be a film students wet dream, I'm off to find something more interesting.- Was this review helpful to you?

Nothing really happens in this film but I couldn't stop watching. Every scene is brushed with an incredibly awkward turn to the conversation which creates it's on brand of humour. Great cast of interesting actors. I couldn't resist the urge to go get a cup of coffee half way through the film!- Was this review helpful to you?

A Peer Into People's Mind
By gemjem (1 review) , 29 Apr 2012A great film. It is like a condition is set up to peer into peoples minds. A table, cigarettes and coffee are all that are required.
No subject matter is needed; polite conversation cuts the awkward silence which develops allowing you to peer into peoples life's, minds and agendas just through small talk. It happens everyday in real life but sometimes the concentration needed to 'keep the conversation going' clouds our understanding of one another where as if you are an observer you things in a different light.

Another cup of the good stuff

It's basically a series of short scenarios involving famous faces, all revolving around drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. There is no plot or story line, it is as if the viewer has stumbled upon these delightful vignettes and is merely an amused observer. It is beautifully filmed in black and white and some of the scenarios are just wonderful: Tom Waits and Iggy Pop, Alfred Molina and Steve Coogan and Kate Blanchet is incredible as she plays two cousins in the same scene. So, Iggy Pop walks into a diner...
By Heksie (5 reviews) from London , 23 Nov 2011I don't get Jim Jarmusch. He strikes me as the kind of director who would excel in the days before film had sound. More style over substance to use a cliche.
I must now contradict myself and say that I did very much enjoy this particular film, which is based on conversation/ communication. I liked how ordinary it was, how uncomfortable, surprising and familiar some of the moments were. Endearing I think is the word I'm looking for.
