    [Highly rated reviewer]

I'd seen most of these when they were first broadcast, which is why I didn't bother with the DVD until after I'd had all the later seasons I'd managed to miss. It's as good as I remembered it & I had the added bonus of the original pilot, which I'd not seen before. The picture quality isn't all that great, considering it's recent vintage, but that's just a minor quibble. Not much left to say about this show that hasn't been said already by more eloquent reviewers than I, except maybe to add that I'd forgotten about the very short miniskirts miss Baxendale occasionally wore in the early episodes. In the words of another character made famous by John Thomson, 'Nice!'

  • Such a disappointment

Missed this series first time round on tv. It was much talked about. I thought the pilot was excellent, the second episode O.K and the third rather tiresome....I struggled with the rest and gave up entirely with the second series. The reason was I found the Fay Ripley character so utterly unbelieveable, truly terrible North Country accent and all round bad acting from her. How, I kept on asking myself did such a truly terrible performance escape the attention of the director? Beats me!!

Thoroughly enjoyed both series 1 and 2 - just my kind of humour.

I really enjoyed watching this, having first viewed it so long ago (and not seeing the entire series back then). Obviously it is slightly dated but it doesnt detract from the enjoyment and is as good now as it was then.

I remember really getting into This Life in the 1990s and this was often used in the same sentance as a comparison. Although it was enjoyable it seemed a little tame in comparison and the acting really was not up to standard. However, I will continue to watch
