Cold Feet - Series 5

The fifth series of this popular comedy-drama series picks up the action six months after the end of series four, and seemingly brings it to a final conclusion. After their dramatic wedding in Australia, Pete and Jo's attempts to come to terms with married life is not helped by the close attentions of Pete's mother-in-law. Karen and David's divorce turns nasty, whilst Adam and Rachel adapt to life with their new baby, Matthew. Having shrugged off the lazy "UK 'Friends" tag, Cold Feet's emotional depth was never more evident than in this series and the tragic developments of these four feature-length episodes.

    Bittersweet

When real tragedy is introduced into a comedy drama show it can come as a shock to the audience. I remember well the outcry from American viewers when Lt. Col. Henry Blake met his untimely end in M*A*S*H. It was in fact one of the most powerful pieces of drama seen on US TV up to that point. Cold Feet goes one better. It's not set in a war zone, where the characters live with death 24/7. There are no plot/character driven warnings of what is to come, just a stupid random accident. The sort of every day occurrence that makes mad axe wielding stalkers in horror movies seem tame by comparison, because it can happen anywhere, anytime, to anybody. The quality of this show is as high, if not higher than ever, but be warned. The last 2 episodes are hard to watch.
