Second half much better than the first

3rd October 2011

The comedy elements of the first half of the film felt like they were based on caricatures of Icelanders (and Americans) and I wasn't particularly impressed. It also felt a little too farcical for my taste.

The second half is more serious, and the comedy moments are more subtle, and it's all the better for it. The film becomes much more interesting, and is genuinely moving.

I struggled to enjoy the first half despite liking all I've seen of Icelandic comedy, but the film is quite different, and is probably worth watching for the last half hour if you're interested in Icelandic cinema.
