It’s one of those revenge-type-assassin movies (again)

I normally try to write a decent amount about films and, seeing as this is currently quite a new release, I feel I should be able to.
But I can’t.
The story is about a girl who loses her parents, trains as an assassin and takes revenge. That’s it. No more. No less.
I can’t really think of anything particularly negative to say about this film, but then I can’t think of anything positive. It just left me with the feeling of de ja vu. I couldn’t help but think that I’d seen the movie a hundred times before, just now with a different lead and various settings.
I hate to write this, but I found Zoe Saldana to be ‘too skinny’ to be this super-perfect assassin. She looks like she might get blown away in a light breeze, yet she’s powerful enough to take down a beefy copper/hood with a single blow.
Character development – minimal.
Action sequences – average.
Plot – nothing taxing.
Plot holes – too many to mention.
I don’t know why, but I kept thinking of the (much better) film ‘Leon’ while I was watching this. Then I read that Luc Besson wrote this too. That figures.
Don’t get me wrong, this movie isn’t bad. It’s just not good. If you could define ‘average’ in cinematic terms, Colombiana is it.- Was this review helpful to you?

The main character Cataleya played by Zoe Saldana is just fantastic. You lost track of time and the world around you watching this, which to me is what a film is all about; being sucked into it.
I would defianlty watch it again, though I do feel it would be as good the second time round viewing it. Half the greatness of this film is that whenever you thought you knew what was happening they would through a spanner in the works.- Was this review helpful to you?

Poor Syriana
