Richard Rush was once a half-decent film-maker — take Freebie and the Bean or The Stunt Man, for example — but he came a cropper with this atrocity, which became notorious after some full-frontal shots of Bruce Willis were snipped by the censors. This is a lousy whodunnit, in which every member of a therapy group goes out of their way to prove they're madder than the rest. The nods towards a whole range of screen thrillers are laborious and the swimming pool love scene with “sinner from Pinner” Jane March is hilarious. This is so awful it can't be missed.

    • Radio Times
  • A ludicrous thriller that reaches depths of absurdity rarely seen on screen, particularly in its risibly overblown finale. Willis acts in Die Hard mode while the rest of the cast twitch uncontrollably around him.

Bruce is better than the movie

If someone else had played the lead role, I wouldn't have bothered renting this and I probably wouldn't have given it 3 stars. It's an erotic thriller with quite a good story. Although you don't need to wait until the end of the movie to work out the 'twist' even so I really wanted to know how it all worked out. All actors give a good performance, but there just seemed to be something missing - not from Bruce Willis though, in fact we all get a bit extra from him, if you know what I mean! It's no Hitchcock (no pun intended!) but worth a watch.
