After strolling lazily through The Golden Child and Beverly Hills Cop II, Eddie Murphy teamed up once again with his Trading Places director John Landis for this comedy, which at least requires him to do more than just chuckle. Murphy plays the pampered African prince who rebels against his father (James Earl Jones) and comes to America, with sidekick Arsenio Hall in tow, to find a wife. Landis aims for a 1930s-style but, unfortunately, is hampered by a script that isn't as clever as it thinks it is and it's left to Murphy (who, courtesy of wonderful make-up, also delivers some very funny cameos) to carry the picture. The stellar supporting cast includes a pre-stardom Cuba Gooding Jr and Samuel L Jackson, although the biggest laugh is generated by the appearance of screen veterans Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy, reprising their Trading Places roles.

Well. Eddie murphy certainly proves what a truely talented person he is in this terrific family yarn.
Not only does he play the rich royal prince of Zamunda, he also plays a barber, a singer, a reverend and an old white man who tells terrible jokes and argues about boxing(with himself as his playing most of the films roles). Not forgetting the talented Arsenio Hall who also plays a number of roles apart from Sammi the disgruntled servant constantly complaining about the squalid conditions that Murphy keeps subjecting him to.
A brilliant family film although there is a little bit of foul language so be warned, well worth watching.
