  • We are not alone

I have to admit having a bit of a soft spot for this film. I remember watching it when it first came out on video way back in about 1989/90 and I had to rent it to see how it had aged over the years.Starring Christopher Walken, this is the tale of a man and his realization that he is not alone, if you know what I mean. For those of you who haven`t seen it, the film is not a tale about going to Church and drinking wine from sacred goblets. We`re talking little green men here.

It`s a simple tale so I won`t give the core of the story away. It does look a little dated now but Walken is superb and the film flows with a nice sense of drama and tension. A film that has nicely aged like a fine wine.

  • Oh Dear!

I cant really find the words to describe how i feel about this film. The dialogue is poor as is the story line. Christopher Walken's eccentric acting permeating throughout is about the only good thing about this film. I suspect the original book flows more coherently. I wished I'd watched 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' again!

  • Pretentious UFO-movie

About a writer with writer's block. Seems like the writers of this film had it too as the plot is near to non-existent.

Didn't watch the entire film. Saw 15 minutes and understood this was going to be a waste of time.

Serious over-acting from Walken and his alien encounter is ridiculous.

Fast-forwarded through the rest of the movie and it seems like the pretentiousness-level kept increasing throughout...

  • Can aliens really be this mediocre?

Once that the opening scenes flashed by, I could sense repressed memories of watching this on a VHS somewhere in the early 90's.

The soundtrack grates - Eric Clapton plays five notes with a lot of echo and an ancient misty 80's synth that he bought from Vangelis.

The acting is not just ham, it is smoked ham, across the board.

The screenplay clearly escaped an editor who could read and write... it is clumsy, and the argument scenes remind me of a year 11 drama class.

The cinematography & lighting seems to have been the responsibility of a number of undirected people who have by now hopefully returned to their previous careers or moved into porn - for the challenge.

Please, please note i do not normally watch films and notice these things, but with this film it helped to pass the time and justify not switching it off.

And then there are the aliens, boy - the aliens.

The ending - from the art gallery onwards - is definitely from another universe, one that does not do cinema.

Perversely though i enjoyed this, but it was ironic. If anybody has watched and enjoyed Garth Marenghi's Dark Place then hopefully you will know what i mean, but this one is for real.

Rent it, you know it makes sense! For optimal viewing pleasure, invite someone round and pair it back to back with Garth Marenghi and some 80's glasses That could be a night to remember.

  • Difficult one, this!

I love Christopher Walken and he is true to norm - quirky, off-the-wall, funny, eccentric. The 'little green men' are, well, they're not scary! The idea behind this film is real good but I just felt the appalling special effects kind of spoilt it for me. Mr. Walken? 9/10, the film? 1/10, sorry.

I actually got a headache watching this, first off its about alien abduction and the only reason I rented it was because I'm a christopher walken fan. This however was utter crap - despite there being absolutely NO point or plot whatsoever the ending is 80's artistic crap and leaves you wondering if things would have been any different if he'd been abducted by a group of stoned hippies. Don't watch it, Don't rent it and for god sake if you've seen it go see a doctor.
