David Bowie Fan

as a huge fan, i rented this purely to watch David Bowie's performance. To see Bowie sitting cross-legged at the front of the stage with only a tiny keyboard (playing a simple beat) for backing, singing 'They've all come to see America' was astounding. The effect was extremely dramatic. No band, just one spot light, and that amazing, beautiful voice. Very moving. Afterwards you could swear that you had heard music but the only melody came from Bowie's voice. He also did a performance of Heroes which was dedicated to his 'local ladder'. very enjoyable. There were other acts and i have to say the set performed by The Who was also brilliant. A live show for New Yorkers but it was the Brits who made the show special. If you like Bowie or The Who, go for it!!- Was this review helpful to you?

(8)DVD is wrong region
By bigpete51 (4 reviews) , 05 Mar 2012Couldn't play it on DVD player or PC, wrong region. No indication on DVD or on the website to say this is a US disk. I assume that I'll have the same problem with the second disk of the set?- Was this review helpful to you?

Splendid stuff
By jonny (210 reviews) from Norwich , 07 Oct 2011Splendid stuff. Stirring and sterling. Fine efforts by all concerned (even Billy Crystal). Highlights are The Stones, The Who, Clapton (with Buddy Guy) and Bowie.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good... But not amazing!
By Alexander Fox from Essex, England , 22 Feb 2006All in all this is a very good concert with some great acts... but MY main reason for renting this was to see Eric Clapton, but unfortunately he only plays one song - Hoochie Coochie Man - featuring Buddy Guy, but it is an excellent version of the song. Bon Jovi are also good, as are Paul McCartney Elton John and The Who... other mediocre performances hold the thing together and there are a few emotional speeches and videos about New York and its residents.
All in all a worthwhile concert very poignant at times and most of all it represents a city and nations willingness to come together and overcome atrocity.
I think I was just a bit bitter that Eric didn't play more songs, not even Layla!- Was this review helpful to you?

Brill
By DKM (148 reviews) from Stoke-on-Trent , 07 Dec 2005Most of the performers are British, like Jagger & Richard, McCartney, Bowie, Elton, the finest of the concert THE WHO, well worth renting just for their three songs, a bit emotional in between acts which is understandable, as it was recorded just 6 weeks after 9/11, there is an option in the menu to just watch the music perfomances if you wish to.
Bon Jovi & Billy Joel were also great.- Was this review helpful to you?
